Grounded: Facts · Last updated: 21 October 2026 · Applies to version 1.0 and later
This policy is between you and Mohibur Rahman, trading as Humble Code, the developer of Grounded: Facts, wherever you live. It is written in plain language so you can see what information is involved when you use the app, why, and the choices you have.
Data processing in connection with the app is the responsibility of:
Mohibur Rahman, Humble Code, the developer of Grounded: Facts (“Humble Code”, “we” or “us”). You can contact us about this policy or anything else to do with data protection at info@humble-code.com.
This policy applies to the Grounded: Facts app for iPhone and its Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, which we call the “app” or the “service”. Where we say “we”, that means the controller named above together with the service providers named in this policy that help make the app available. We follow the UK Data Protection Act 2018, the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR.
The app keeps the following on your device, and nowhere else:
None of this is uploaded. We cannot see it, and deleting the app deletes it. Reports are kept on your device in this version; if you want us to see one, please email it to us as well.
We do not ask you to create an account. We do not use crash-reporting services of our own. We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos or precise location. The app never asks to track you, and does not use the advertising identifier. We do not sell personal information.
To learn which parts of the app are used, the app sends anonymous usage counts to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service run by TelemetryDeck GmbH of Augsburg, Germany. A short message is sent when certain things happen:
Each message also carries basic technical details: device model, iOS and app version, screen size, language and region, time zone, and display settings such as text size. Messages never include your name, contact details, location or anything you type, such as the reason you give when you report a fact.
So that a returning copy of the app can be counted as the same one, the app takes the identifier Apple gives this app on your device and scrambles it with a one-way hash before it is sent. TelemetryDeck never receives the identifier itself and cannot work out who you are. This information is used only to improve the app; it is not used for advertising and not combined with anything else. TelemetryDeck’s own policy: telemetrydeck.com/privacy.
The free version of Grounded: Facts is funded by adverts served by Google AdMob, part of Google (Google Ireland Limited for users in the UK and the European Economic Area; Google LLC elsewhere). Adverts appear as clearly labelled cards between facts. You are always in control of how advertising works for you.
Adverts never appear on the source screen, in widgets, in notifications or on shared images.
The app displays adverts using the Google Mobile Ads SDK. Google explains that, to deliver, measure and improve advertising, the SDK may collect:
Google’s consent software also uses your general location to decide whether a consent message is needed where you are.
Google is responsible for how it uses this information. Its explanations are here:
Advertisers may find out whether an advert shown in this app led someone to install their app, using Apple’s SKAdNetwork. Apple designed that system so the information is aggregated and delayed and does not identify you or your device.
“Grounded Unlimited” is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase processed by Apple. Payment happens entirely within Apple’s App Store systems under Apple’s privacy policy. We do not receive or store your name, payment details or Apple Account. Your entitlement is tied to your Apple Account, so you can restore it on any of your devices with “Restore Purchases” in the app’s Settings or on the Grounded Unlimited screen. The app keeps only a local yes/no record of whether it is unlocked, and the anonymous usage counts above record that a purchase or restore happened.
The app can send an optional daily notification containing a fact. It is off unless you turn it on, and it asks your permission first. Every notification is scheduled entirely on your device from the facts built into the app, and only facts marked suitable for a lock screen are used. No server is involved and nothing leaves your device. You can change the time or turn it off under “Notifications” in the app’s Settings and in your device Settings.
The Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show the day’s fact. They are built on your device from the facts inside the app, use only facts marked suitable for a lock screen, and send nothing anywhere.
Every fact links to its source. Opening a source takes you to that website in Safari, where that website’s own privacy policy applies. We do not know which pages you go on to read, other than the anonymous count described above.
Grounded: Facts is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; reading history stays on the device. Parents who prefer an entirely advert-free experience can use the one-time Grounded Unlimited purchase, which switches all advertising technology in the app off.
If you email us, we use what you send only to answer you. It is never used for advertising, and we keep it only for as long as needed to help you.
Apple collects information when you download or update the app from the App Store, such as your Apple Account details and the time of download. We have no influence over that and do not receive it. It is governed by Apple’s privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.
We do not sell information that directly identifies you. Anonymous usage counts are processed by TelemetryDeck on our behalf. Advertising data is processed by Google and its certified advertising partners as described in Google’s policies linked above. We may disclose information if reasonably necessary to comply with a legal process, to assist in the prevention or detection of crime, or to protect the safety of any person.
TelemetryDeck is based in Germany. Its hosting providers include Hetzner in Germany and Amazon Web Services, and it states that any processing outside the EU relies on safeguards recognised under EU law, such as standard contractual clauses. Google may process advertising data in the United States and other countries outside the UK and the EEA. Google states that it relies on safeguards recognised under UK and EU law for those transfers, including the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework with its UK Extension and standard contractual clauses. We have no influence over that processing.
We keep nothing beyond any correspondence you send us, which we delete once your query is resolved and any follow-up is complete. Anonymous usage counts are kept by TelemetryDeck in accordance with its policy. Information collected by Google is kept in accordance with Google’s retention policies: policies.google.com/technologies/retention.
Under Articles 15 to 22 of the UK GDPR and GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Because we hold no personal data about you beyond any email you send us, and the usage counts cannot be traced back to you, most requests will be answered by confirming exactly that. For data held by Google, you can exercise your rights directly through your Google settings and Google’s privacy policy.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. For us that is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), ico.org.uk. We would appreciate the chance to resolve any concern first, so please contact us before approaching the ICO.
Your reading history, saved facts and reports never leave your device, so they are protected by your device’s own security: your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and Apple’s encryption. Usage counts and advertising data are protected in transit by standard HTTPS encryption.
Uninstalling the app in the usual way deletes everything it has stored on your device and stops all usage counts and advertising immediately.
We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you.
We will update this policy whenever a change to the app makes it necessary, for instance a change to how advertising, usage counts or purchases work, and we will show the new date at the top. Please check it from time to time.
Please direct any questions or comments about this policy to info@humble-code.com. If you believe we have acted otherwise than as described here, please tell us.
